3. Browse the University of Pennsylvania's extensive website about ethnography and find some ethnographies to read.

Has knowledge about:

1. Take the course Research Methods in World Arts

   1. Dallas International University course

   2. Payap University Course  

2. Study/compare varying applications of research methodologies, either in an approved course or under consultant supervision; understand values and applications of each. 

Can do with Assistance:

1. DIU course WA5386 Directed Practicum in World Arts. 

2. Help teach a research methods course or workshop.

3. Regularly read research papers, ethnographies, and journals.

4. Read about Identity-Based Community Development

1. Work with a community to help them create their own ICAL (Initial Community Arts List) or similar documentation.

Can do with Assistance:

1. Train community members in research methods, or help them get training. 

2. Facilitate community members presenting and sharing about their culture and artistic expressions. 

3. Support, encourage, and provide a platform for community sharing and showcasing research 

Can do independently:

No Competency:

1. Observe a community and its events and take notes. We recommend using the 3-column method (described in the article "The Autogenic Interviewing Style".

Has knowledge about:

1. Actively engage in activities that will enable interaction with those from cultures other than one's own.

Can do with Assistance:

1. Write a CAP (Community Arts Profile)

2. Publish an article or present about a community's arts.

3. Participate in an internship or mentoring relationship with an Arts Specialist or Consultant

1. Academic publications or presentations about research in journals and at conferences.
